Hopkinsville Art Guild

Derby Arts Festival

What is it all about?

In an effort to focus on the arts community in Hopkinsville, the Hopkinsville Art Guild, in collaboration with the City of Hopkinsville, the Pennyrile Academy of Fine Arts, Christian County Extension 4-H program, area schools and the Public Library host the Derby Arts Festival each May 1, starting in 2009. The event in 2010 took place at Bradford Square Mall

We all know that a thriving arts community is essential to a community where people enjoy living and rearing their family. Hopkinsville and the surrounding areas have many talented artists. This festival provides these artists an opportunity to demonstrate their skills and connect with the public. It showcases juried visual artists’ exhibits and performing artists with live music and dance. There has been a “Creation Station” for children to experience several free art activities. They can develop skills in water coloring, origami, learn about the “old master” painters and create chalk art projects. A sidewalk chalk art contest called “Chalk it Up” is usually held that day with prizes awarded.

Please join us for a wonderful day in downtown Hopkinsville on Derby Day, the 2011 date yet to be chosen. For more information, please contact Henrietta Kemp at 886-3776 or hvkemp@yahoo.com or Judy Campbell at 885-6393 or cmilton@bellsouth.net.
